Based on FIBA Official Basketball Rules, used by Basketball NZ and Basketball Australia (not NBA rules, which differ on some details). Local junior grades often shorten quarters and drop the shot clock.

Two teams of five try to score by shooting the ball through the opponent's hoop, while defending their own. Played on a hard court with continuous end-to-end action.
