Squaddie was born out of real frustration, a Saturday morning, and a mum who decided to fix it herself.
It started like it always does — a Saturday morning in Tasman, a netball court, and a well-meaning coach trying to remember who had played Goal Shoot last week. That coach was Candice.
As a passionate netball mum watching her daughter's team, she saw the same thing happen season after season: volunteer coaches doing their absolute best, but struggling to keep rotation fair. The loud parents complained. The quiet kids missed out. Nobody meant for it to happen — it just did.
So Candice built Squaddie. Not as a tech entrepreneur — as a mum who was fed up. She wanted something simple enough to use between warm-up drills, powerful enough to actually solve the problem, and friendly enough that every volunteer coach in the country would actually pick it up.
"I didn't set out to build a startup. I set out to make sure every kid on the team got a fair go. Turns out, a lot of coaches needed the same thing."
Sport shapes who kids become. When they get consistent game time, they grow in confidence, skill, and love of the game. Squaddie exists to make sure no child misses out because of a logistical problem we can absolutely solve with technology.
We believe every child on that team deserves real game time — not just the ones who are naturally talented.
Volunteer coaches give up their time out of love. We exist to make their job easier, not harder.
