New Zealand sport runs on volunteers. The coach is usually a parent. The manager is another parent. The school sports coordinator is juggling dozens of teams alongside a teaching load. Clubs keep going because people give up their evenings and weekends.
Many team apps are designed overseas for paid coaches, big clubs or American-style leagues. They often don’t fit the way sport actually works here.
What makes NZ sport different
Volunteer coaches are the norm. Tools need to be quick to learn and easy to run from a phone on the sideline.
