The batting order is a list from first to last, and can include every player so nobody misses their turn at the plate when they are not in the field. The fielding plan is a separate diamond for each inning, so you can move your pitcher to the outfield, put a new catcher behind the plate and still see the whole game at a glance.
There are nine fielding slots per inning, so the total is 9 times the number of innings. Divide by the squad to see what an even share looks like.
| Squad | Innings | Fielding slots | Even share |
|---|---|---|---|
| 9 players | 6 | 54 | Everyone fields all 6 innings |
| 10 players | 6 | 54 | 5.4 each: four players get 6 and six get 5 |
| 11 players | 6 | 54 | 4.9 each: ten players get 5 and one gets 4 |
| 12 players | 6 | 54 | 4.5 each: six get 5 and six get 4 |
| 12 players | 5 | 45 | 3.75 each: nine get 4 and three get 3 |
The aim is never more than one inning between the most and least played player, and rotating who sits out. Use the playing time calculator for your own numbers.
Drag players onto pitcher, catcher, first, second, third, shortstop and the outfield for each inning on web and mobile.
For 6, 7 and 8-a-side the diamond drops the positions that format does not use.
See who is available before you build, so you do not have to rebuild when a player drops out.
Ask Squaddie for a lineup that skips unavailable players and favours positions each player has played least. It is shown for your approval before it is saved.
Squaddie lets you build a batting order and a fielding plan for each inning on a diamond, on the web or on your phone.
Work out the total fielding slots (nine per inning), divide by your squad to see an even share, rotate who sits out, and rotate players between infield and outfield. Keep the gap between most and least played to one inning.
The batting order can include all of your players, which is common in youth baseball so that players who are not in the field still get their turn.
