Coaching School Netball at UNISS, LNISS and SISS: Squad Rotations for a 5-Day Tournament

Secondary school netball team celebrating on court during a regional tournament

For secondary school netball coaches across Aotearoa, Winter Tournament Week means one of the three massive regional championships — UNISS (Upper North Island), LNISS (Lower North Island), or SISS (South Island) — with top sides pushing on to the NZSS Netball Championships.

Playing two full games a day across five days (up to 40 quarters of netball in a single week) is a completely different tactical challenge from Saturday morning competition. The teams that finish strong on Thursday and Friday are almost always the teams that managed their squad load on Monday and Tuesday.

1. Map out two-game-a-day quarter rotations

With a tournament squad of 10 to 12 players, you cannot run the same seven for four quarters twice a day without inviting fatigue errors and ankle or knee injuries.

  • Pre-build four-quarter lineups for both the morning and afternoon games using a netball rotation generator.
  • Track cumulative quarters played across the tournament so your midcourters (C, WA, WD) aren’t redlining before crossover finals.
  • Test combinations early in pool play so your bench transitions are seamless when a tight playoff game needs fresh legs in Q4.

2. Track courtside shooting and turnover stats — even offline

At busy tournament hubs with dozens of outdoor courts or packed indoor venues, mobile data can drop out. Squaddie’s netball stats tracker works courtside offline, letting a manager or bench player tap in:

  • Goal attempts and shooting percentages by GS and GA
  • Centre pass conversions and turnovers
  • Quarter-by-quarter score breakdowns

Between games, you can review the real numbers over lunch instead of guessing why the second quarter slipped away.

3. Keep travelling whānau and school supporters in the loop

Whether families are courtside or following from home, having your tournament draw, court numbers and match results in one app saves your team manager from answering twenty individual texts between games.
